Bedard, Faber, Hughes Named Calder Trophy Finalists

Connor Bedard, Brock Faber and Luke Hughes are this year's finalists for the Calder Trophy, the NHL announced Tuesday.

The Calder Trophy is awarded to "the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition" and is determined through voting by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

Wild Sign Marc-Andre Fleury To One-Year, $2.5M Extension

The Minnesota Wild signed goalie Marc-Andre Fleury to a one-year, $2.5 million contract extension Wednesday, bringing back the veteran for his age-40 season.

Fleury, who turns 40 on Nov. 28, has had a prolific season in which he passed Patrick Roy for second place behind Martin Brodeur on the NHL 's all-time list in career goaltending wins. Brodeur (691) is still 130 ahead of Fleury.

Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman was suspended for three games for throwing his stick toward officials after Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to the visiting Vegas Golden Knights.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety revealed the ruling Monday after a phone hearing with Hartman to discuss his unsportsmanlike conduct.

The 35-year-old forward is week to week while recovering from back surgery Feb. 6. He was skating separately before Monday.

Inside a small office at TRIA Rink, the Minnesota Wild practice facility, Fleury spoke at length about his future and his long NHL career in an interview with NHL.com/fr. There was one major point that stood out during the half-hour long conversation: he's not planning on hanging up his mask.

"The door is more open today for a return than it was in September or October," Fleury said this week.

Bruins Acquire Pat Maroon From Wild

The Boston Bruins have acquired Pat Maroon from the Minnesota Wild for Luke Toporowski and a conditional 2026 sixth-round draft pick.

Maroon has won the Stanley Cup in three straight seasons, beginning with the St. Louis Blues in 2019 before a back-to-back run with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Maroon underwent back surgery a month ago and was scheduled to be out four to six weeks.
