Leafs Hire Craig Berube As Head Coach

May 17, 2024 9:19 PM

The Toronto Maple Leafs have hired Craig Berube as head coach.

Berube replaces Sheldon Keefe, who the Leafs fired on May 9. Berube was fired by the St. Louis Blues in December.

"We're not waiting," Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving said May 10. "We're going to be thorough. This isn't something that's going to be hastily done, but we certainly know that there's some quality candidates out there. We want to get them as fast as we possibly can."

Oilers Facing Game 4 Goaltender Decision

May 13, 2024 11:57 AM

The decision to pull goaltender Stuart Skinner after the second period of a 4-3 loss Sunday to the Vancouver Canucks has left the Edmonton Oilers facing questions about their goaltending for a second straight postseason.

Skinner, who has started every game during these playoffs, was replaced by Calvin Pickard to begin the third period. Skinner was pulled after allowing four goals on 15 shots in a Game 3 that saw the Canucks take a 2-1 series lead in the Western Conference semifinals.

"Yes, we need more saves," Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said. "Tonight, obviously, I felt like that with Picks going in the third period but defense along with goaltending is very important to winning hockey games. Especially in the long term. Yeah, it's got to be better."

Toronto Says 'Everything Is On The Table'

May 10, 2024 2:47 PM

Another disappointing end for the Toronto Maple Leafs could -- and should -- be a catalyst in a potentially painful new beginning for the organization.

That was the message from Leafs' management on Friday in the wake of Toronto bowing out in a first-round Stanley Cup playoff series for the sixth time in seven full seasons. The Leafs already axed head coach Sheldon Keefe on Thursday, and attention turns now to how Toronto will handle expectations for its expensive core of players who failed to deliver when it matters most.

Toronto's president Brendan Shanahan didn't immediately have all the answers but pledged -- again -- to try finding them.

The Toronto Maple Leafs relieved Sheldon Keefe of head-coaching duties Thursday.

According to a statement from the club, a search for Keefe's replacement will begin immediately.

"Today's decision was difficult," Leafs general manager Brad Treliving said. We thank Sheldon for his hard work and dedication to the organization over the last nine years, and wish him and his family all the very best."

May 7, 2024 2:06 AM

Los Angeles Kings general manager Rob Blake said that the team will not buy out the contract of maligned star center Pierre-Luc Dubois, who struggled in his first season with the team.

The Kings acquired Dubois from the Winnipeg Jets in a blockbuster trade last June.
