The Dallas Stars unveiled a statue of Hockey Hall of Famer Mike Modano during Saturday night's 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings.
Modano is the franchise leader in goals, assists and games played.
"It's hard to put into words what this has meant," Modano said after wiping away tears following a one-minute standing ovation. "Thirty years ago we got on a plane in 1993 to come here (when the Minnesota North Stars moved to Dallas) and didn't know what to expect. Five years later we gave you a Stanley Cup in 1999. ... We feel we've turned Dallas into a hockey town."
The Dallas Stars addressed what was arguably their biggest need Wednesday when they acquired defenseman Chris Tanev as part of a three-team trade with the Calgary Flames and the New Jersey Devils.
In total, the Stars received Tanev and the rights to University of Massachusetts prospect goaltender Cole Brady. The Flames, who will retain 50% of Tanev's salary, received prospect defenseman Artem Grushnikov from the Stars along with their 2024 second-round pick and a 2026 conditional third-round pick.
The Devils received the Stars' 2026 fourth-round pick for serving as a third-party broker that retained 50% of Tanev's salary.
Dallas Stars forward Evgenii Dadonov is sidelined indefinitely because of a lower-body fracture, coach Pete DeBoer announced Tuesday.
Dadonov logged just 8:35 of ice time in the Stars' 3-2 win against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
"He had an X-ray in Montreal, and it didn't show anything," DeBoer said. "He came back home, and it wasn't getting any better, so we had more detailed pictures taken, so he's out for a while here. There's a fracture. They're making decisions now on whether screws have to be put in, things like that, but it's not good news."
Bo Horvat scored 41 seconds into overtime and the New York Islanders defeated the Dallas Stars 3-2 on Sunday night to win new coach Patrick Roy's debut.
Alexander Romanov and Hudson Fasching also scored for New York, and defenseman Noah Dobson had two assists. Ilya Sorokin finished with 41 saves in front of a raucous home crowd.
Craig Smith and Jani Hakanpaa scored in the final 13 seconds of the third period, rallying the Dallas Stars to a 3-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday.
Evgeni Dadonov also scored in the third period as Dallas improved to 5-0-1 in its last six games. Scott Wedgewood made 19 saves for the Stars.
"You saw what happened in the end," Dallas coach Peter DeBoer said. "That's the great part about hockey, you're never out of it till the buzzer goes."
Leo Carlsson scored a goal in the third period while making an impressive NHL debut in the Anaheim Ducks' 3-2 loss to the Dallas Stars on Thursday night.
Joe Pavelski had a goal and an assist for the Stars, and Miro Heiskanen got credit for the tiebreaking goal with 13:13 to play when Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler kicked a centering pass under goalie John Gibson.
Leo Carlsson, the hulking Swedish center who the Anaheim Ducks drafted with the second overall pick in June, is expected to make his NHL debut Thursday against the Dallas Stars.
If Carlsson does debut against the Stars at Honda Center, he will be the fourth member of the 2023 draft class to play in the NHL. It's a group led by Chicago Blackhawks center and No. 1 pick Connor Bedard, along with Columbus Blue Jackets center Adam Fantilli and Buffalo Sabres winger Zach Benson.
Former NHL players Dustin Brown and Jamie Langenbrunner highlight the 2023 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame class unveiled Friday by USA Hockey.
Longtime executive Brian Burke, women's star Katie King Crowley and official Brian Murphy also are being inducted into the hall at a ceremony Dec. 6 in Boston.
Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill has signed a two-year contract extension less than a month after being named GM of the year following the team's run to the Western Conference finals.
The deal announced Monday would keep Nill with the Stars through the 2025-26 season. He has said he hopes to work out a succession plan with owner Tom Gaglardi.
