The winner is selected by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

Valeri Nichushkin scored twice, Nathan MacKinnon added two assists to break the franchise's single-season points mark and the Colorado Avalanche cruised into the playoffs behind a 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.

MacKinnon wrapped up the regular season with 140 points (51 goals, 89 assists) to top Peter Stastny's franchise record of 139 set in 1981-82 when the club was in Quebec.

Home-ice advantage for the best-of-7 series will go to the team that finishes higher in the Central Division. The Jets (50-24-6) are second, ahead of the Avalanche (49-25-6).

The playoffs begin April 20.

Winnipeg won all three games against Colorado this season, including 7-0 on Saturday.

The Colorado Avalanche signed goaltender Justus Annunen on Tuesday to a two-year contract extension through the 2025-26 season.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Annunen -- who could have become a restricted free agent on July 1 -- will have a cap hit of around $833,000 on a one-way deal, according to ESPN's Kevin Weekes.

Annunen, who turned 24 on March 11, is currently paid $775,000 on a two-way deal that pays $225,000 in the AHL.
