Cutter Gauthier Signs Three-Year Entry-Level Deal With Ducks

Cutter Gauthier, who scored the most goals in the NCAA in the past 25 years during Boston College's run to the Frozen Four, signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.

Gauthier is likely to make his NHL debut Thursday when the Ducks wrap up their season at Vegas.

Edmonton traded its 2024 first-round pick and a 2025 conditional fifth-round pick to Anaheim, one that becomes a fourth-rounder if the Oilers win the Stanley Cup this season. The Oilers also received a seventh-round pick from the Ducks.

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Anaheim Ducks defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin on Thursday night in a three-way trade that also involved the Carolina Hurricanes.

Anaheim received Toronto's 2025 third-round pick and retained 50% of Lyubushkin's salary. Carolina received a 2024 sixth-round pick to retain 50% of Lyubushkin's remaining salary. Hence, the Maple Leafs will have only $687,500 count against their salary cap for the veteran defenseman, leaving them with flexibility ahead of the March 8 NHL trade deadline.

Auston Matthews had his second straight hat trick to push his NHL-leading goals total to 48 and added two assists for a career-high five points in the Toronto Maple Leafs' 9-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night.

Amid consistent "M-V-P!" chants raining down from the rafters, Matthews broke a tie for the Toronto record for hat tricks in a season with six, passing Reg Noble (1917-18), Babe Dye (1924-25) and Darryl Sittler (1980-81).

Matthews also had his team-record 73rd multigoal game, two more than Sittler. The American has 13 career hat tricks.
