No Plea Yet In Staal's Case

New & Observer - The county attorney prosecuting Eric Staal said Thursday there have been no pleas and that he has not made any reductions in the charges against the 14 people arrested at Staal's bachelor party early Saturday morning.

The Carolina Hurricanes center was charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing the legal process, both misdemeanors.

"When these matters get closer to their first court date, ... I expect further discussions with the defendants could develop," Cook County (Minn.) attorney Tim Scannell wrote in an e-mail Thursday.

Scannell said he had been in contact with two lawyers representing clients among the group arrested Saturday in Lutsen, Minn. The group included Staal's younger brother Jordan, who plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and a number of his cousins.

Staal is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 8 in Cook County District Court in Grand Marais, Minn., Scannell said. That will be five days after Staal's wedding on Aug. 3. [READ]
