Yahoo.com - The Hurricanes took a step toward the future Friday, agreeing to terms with center Jakub Petruzalek on a two-year, two-way contract.
The 22-year-old Czech, who also received a $65,000 signing bonus, will make $475,000 per year at the NHL level. In the minor leagues, he will get $55,000 in the first year and $60,000 the second year.
A ninth-round pick of the Rangers in 2004, Petruzalek was acquired by the Hurricanes on November 21 for Brad Isbister. In his first professional season in North America, he recorded 10 goals and 20 assists in 60 games with Hartford and Albany of the AHL while adding a tally and 10 points in seven contests with Charlotte of the ECHL.
